9 TIPS: Overcoming Common Spoonie Mistakes & Mishaps – AKA FLARE-UPS – Fast!

Here I am again.

Joints slowly filling up with fluid.

 ⠀⠀Join arthritic artist and cannabis advocate Kayla Arielle in Los Angeles, California as she conquers a flare-up day. That isn’t the case for everyone suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, unfortunately. I am now 28 years old and was diagnosed when I was 13. I’ve experimented with every kind of thing I can possibly think of- nearly. Things I never thought I would try. Like nasty algae drinks and cannabis.

At this point I’m familiar with the factors that land me here. People suffering from autoimmune conditions often find over their journey of healing that they have many ‘inflammation triggers’ that they must learn to avoid or minimize.

It can be a frustrating process, rooting individual foods and whole food groups out of your established dietary lifestyle. But as you see firsthand the results of committing to making proper alterations to your routine and perceptions of what is “good” or “desirable” in the name of health and happiness, it becomes very natural and enjoyable!

Why am I having a flare up today?
I accidentally overdosed on sugar.
What is the answer now?
THERE ARE, THANKFULLY, MANY!

    • ♢ I’ll be expressing myself with all of the above in mind as well- such as you have experienced throughout this article itself. I very much recommend writing on days that you are having trouble with pain- be it physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, or any other kind!
      Share it with a friend, keep it to yourself, submit it to a community that can support you… fuck- burn it, or tear it up and blow it to the wind!
      The important thing is that you let it out.
  8. SEEK AND DEVELOP POSITIVE, SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS
    • ♢ We are the sum of the handful of people closest to us, as they say. Our everyday interactions (and environment) play a huge role in our well-being. I’ll be sure to connect with some of the people who make me feel most loved today and release some of those feel-good hormones. Loving them heals me as well!
  9. SACRED SPACE
    • ♡ Make a Sacred Space. Whether to you that means an altar of some sort, tucking yourself somewhere safely into Nature’s solace, or even creating the most luxurious bathtub atmosphere you can and soaking in some Epsom salts, find what resonates with you and do it.

Do it gently.

YET-
Do it with all of your heart.

Epsom salt baths help with the swelling, pain, and inflammation that comes with rheumatoid arthritis, other autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, and horror! It wonderful natural health alternative that you can do yourself at home.

…….On that note, I am jumping into my tub (or should I say sitting on the end of it and sliding down slowly and carefully so as not to aggravate the swelling and pressure in my joints… Hehe) as my sacred space!

I’m going to fill it with Epsom salts and soothing essential oils and all of the good things to help me heal on many levels today.
Don’t forget the bubbles!

While I am doing that, I will be binge-watching a funny Netflix show and committing to myself to honor the 2 main things that I have learned over the years:

 

  1. Do not fool myself into justifying consuming or doing things that cause pain.
  2. Honor my hard-earned lessons.
