”The hot California sun
seeps into my silk dress,
permeating pale skin
thirsty for the rays.
It was a random gift from a girl named Gypsy…
She tossed it to me in a bar bathroom stall,
along with a clay handmade necklace her sister gave her.
The necklace perfectly matched my new hair-
a soft lilac with silver undertones-
and was engraved on the front
with a design quite similar
to the Flower of Life
(the second time I’ve received a gift
with such a symbol in Arcata)
and the word for Peace in Swahili,
“Ukuthula”, on the back…….”
